Poem

Two Lady Archers by Louise
Two lady archers
came down from the hills

to Lillishall wandered
with great thrills & spills,
the journey was long

though made shorter by chatter,
the route that they took
without satnav, no matter.
As the freedom to roam
took ahold in the car

great places they'd been to,
made THIS trip 'not far'.

They arrived with a bustle,

case of nerves in each hand
the building was awesome,
large, very grand.

No human touch opened doors!
they were daunted
Will we ever get out or

by Lurch is it haunted?
Did you bring a frock?
Do we dress for our dinners?
Are we in the right place?
All the folk look like winners!

To their rooms and to dinner,
then off to the hall

to talk arrows and bows
with butts right down one wall.
All very impressive,
they decided to stay
both hoped that their shooting
might be more than 'OK'.
The coaches and group
were a friendly old bunch
and the shooting went 'quite well'
when it came to the crunch

Well, the weekend sped on
and the time seemed to vanish

Paradoxically 'fast'
each minute an hourish (did you see what i did there?)
Absorbed in the grains, yards,
form, pounds and clicker
with breaks for great meals,
time passed even quicker.
Each second was squeezed
for the lore it contained
coaches were patient
their kindness sustained.

Continued .....
In a blink it was Sunday,
the bags were repacked
and mementos were bought
so their visit was fact.
Two lady archers
return to the hills
with stories and knowledge
and increased of skills.
Club members were keen
hearing what had been learnt
soaked up information,
and scathing? they weren't.
Two ladies had found
that their club was just great
most members were willing
to help out a mate
to stand and to watch
and to offer advice,
some clubs were more cutthroat,
not nearly so nice!

So, go south, get some coaching,
be the best that you can
buy all the right kit,
shiney things, yes, but man
clubs are more than just win,
score, cup, being bold,
the life of the archers
is the real lasting gold.
Connection to people,
taking part, is the thing
being decent, respectful,
and honour, we should bring
to the sport of the ancients;
let it not be forgot
you're only as good
as the last arrow you shot.

Think that your win
was all down to yourself
and your club will be empty...
with huge cups on the shelf.
These ladies some wisdom
they saw in Kirknewton:
its great to learn, practise, coach,
'n' be good at your shootin,
But we don't forget others,
we share, borrow, show
the club's made of people
and that's 'first' don't you know.

These lines are not written
to make one offended
but with best of intentions
and now they are ended.
